Gender-Neutral Pronouns

Postby MadCat on Mon Jan 31, 2011 10:21 pm

Okay, so you may have already seen my request in the new Game thread; if not, here it is:

As a special request, can everyone please use gender-neutral pronouns to refer to me?
I'm partial to "xe", but I'll also take the singular "they", or "it" or even "thon."

I put off making this request for a long time, mostly out of fear, and because no one used pronouns for me often enough that it seemed necessary to do so. I tried to avoid using gender terms for myself, and phrased my sentences in such a way as to avoid using pronouns as often as I could.

But as time has passed, I've seen more and more gendered pronouns being tossed my way, so I finally decided to grow a spine and make my preferences known.

I appreciate everyone's support, and thank you in advance.

It's complicated, so let's just call it a personal preference thing. I prefer gender-neutral pronouns to pronouns with a distinct gender when referring to myself.

Do ou mind Middle English epicene pronouns, instead of the newer forms?
