Although Vargas will rightly get a lot of ribbing for his surprising yet inevitable betrayals, he did manage to maintain a growing empire until 1907, so he's doing something right in the game.

I'm with you there. Not saying he's got every nuance of the game down, just that judging when your neighbors are likely to believe you and need an alliance is a useful skill, and he does well at that.

Having an idea of the overall strategic situation of the continent, not so well at.
