Getting Older

Not too long ago I began the habit of taking short breaks while drawing for extended periods of time. It's become a necessity to avoid overtaxing my drawing hand to the point of injury. Well, today's strips took a combined twelve hours to complete, and even with the breaks, my hand is letting me know just how much pain it'll be in when I wake up later today.

Not two years ago I would power through the night to complete a particularly long or involved strip and the worst I'd complain about would be how tired I am for lack of sleep. Now I find myself using heat patches and ointments for pain. A few days ago Joel gave me some advice on how to make things easier and take care of my drawing hand, stating that "we're not young men anymore." Funny, I was always the one poking him with the age thing. Guess it didn't quite sink in that it applied to me as well.
