News Post 5.0

First, my street cred: my first encounter with Dungeons & Dragons was with the basic set before it was called "the basic set" because it was the only set. I still remember the first real hard decision my DM made me make, "I'm going to roll damage. You choose if he bites your arm off or your leg." I've been playing D&D ever since then so I'm intimately familiar with the trappings of Monster Manuals, THAC0, and prestige classes. I've even DM'd a few of my own epic campaigns. As you can imagine, I took the following news with a bit of trepidation.

Back on 9 January The New York Times reported that Wizards of the Coast announced a new iteration of Dungeons & Dragons - Advanced D&D 5.0. Not sure if 5.0 is what it's going to be called but Wizards was sure about one thing: the fans get to help craft the new rule set by play testing throughout 2012. This is not only an admission that 4.0 was a colossal fuck-up on their part but it's also an indicator to me that Wizards of the Coast doesn't know what they're doing with Gary Gygax's baby.

I've since moved on to the shores of Pathfinder and, I'm happy to say, that the tradition of table top fantasy RPGs lives on - no - thrives on its golden horizon.
